The E32 BMW 750iL was BMW's flagship luxury sedan from 30 years ago -- and it was the first V12-powered luxury sedan in this segment. Today I'm reviewing the 750iL, and I'm going to show you all the quirks and features of a special BMW luxury sedan -- then I'm going to drive the 750iL and review the BMW 750iL driving experience.

Those padded slots in the door armrest are there to prevent things from rattling around. That would be annoying in a luxus sedan. The 01-10 on the phone are for the saved numbers in the phones memory. S = "Scheinwerfer" = Headlamps-Cleaning-Switch ^^

To the left of the gear selector on some of these cars was a switch with 3 options. E or A and S and M. M being manual, and E or A being the economy mode. S had different shift patterns and was the "sport" mode. In a car such as the one being shown here to go from E to S while driving simply drop the car down into 3rd while in the automotic mode. The display in the dash will also show an "S".

made in japan does sound like more quality then made in china would've been in the 80's fyi. Of course like that contact slip, china has come a long way in technology lmao. Also page 119 of the manual, this car does have cup holders. There are holders for two beverage containers in a tray in the center console (below the infotainment, push in pop out design) as well as in the face of the rear seat bench near the center seat position. To open, press against the upper recess; apply pressure and slide back to close (where you were resting your arm the whole time, in many 1990 luxury vehicles, that middle seat folded down because it opens up into a storage compartment with cup holders.) Only reason i looked it up.

Stark and Schlimm are German synonyms for intense. Could that be why its an ‘S’ on the wiper stalk? Just a guess. The cigarette lighter coming out at an angle also helps when attaching adapters. Some would be difficult to connect otherwise.

I like your channel Doug! I´m 43 years old and from Germany. When i was a child my father owned two S-classes in the eighties. A W116 (280S) and a W126 (280SE). Later he bought this E32 750iL. At their time all these cars where somehow the King of the Autobahn. When i was 19 i was allowed to drive the 750. At least in my memories this was the fastest car in the universe;). Sadly i have no comparison to the 560 merc but i think performancewise the BMW was better, somehow build for another how to say sporty or elegant audience. Remembering the W126, this car was kinda better build, more quality, never something broken (would´nt say that about the BMW;). There´s a German saying that BMW means "Bring mich Werkstatt". It means bring me to the auto repair shop.

7:05 It stands for scheinwerfer which means headlights in German 7:45 it tilts to be more reachable 8:05 actually it's very useful to choose the amount of dimming 8:45 it's for space saving/tilting for easy reach, after all it's just a $0.10 plastic path for a nice touch 14:00 saying that it was for money saving is pretty bad argument. This was the writing style of that BMW era, in fact in some models the letters were in mounted ON a plastic panel and then on the car and still the letters were connected so if they wanted to save money they would neither put them on the panel nor connect them Giving 6/10 on a 30 year European vehicle, which tiniest interior plastic piece probably costed BMW more than Tesla's interior plastics in total, is at least hillarious. Not to mention that you don't even hear a cracking noise after all that time. I hope not all Americans have this pour appreciation for quality vehicles like this

V12 of that time is basically two 2.5 I6, which were produced for 5er and 3er, sticked together. If I recall correctly almost all engine electrical is doubled, two ECUs and so on. Very tricky to maintain. But peak of the engineering of that era.

I had this car in the 90's. You need to do more homework on this one. When the transmission is in "A" mode and you are cruising above a certain speed (40?, don't remember) it would go into overdrive. It had so much torque, that going from flat land at 80 mph up the grapevine (on cruise control) it didn't down shift. The phone had a setting that allowed you to park the car and the horn would honk if you got a call. It was built so well that my first one was broadsided by a car traveling at 40 mph and the door didn't enter the passenger compartment. I drove the car home, the other car had to be towed. The engine was basically two six cylinder engines connected at the crank. There was two of everything, the concept being that something could fail and you would still reach your destination in limp mode. Tunnel port intake manifolds, folded so they would fit under the hood. Really, you got no clue!

In reality their v12 is just 2 2.5 liter is6 glued together in a v shape. So yeah no surprise they came up with that before a v8 engine, as the v8 required development the v12 didn't. And that said... I never have been a fan of bmw v12s.. as they usually just become a pain when things break, specially given how much of an independent unit both glued together i6 still are. Has always been i6 or v8 for me.

    David デービッドChristian クリスタン2 måneder siden

My dad owned one of these when it was more or less new, thinking he had gotten a "good deal" on a V12, it was a total lemon. The catalytic converters melted and fused together, requiring > $6000 in repairs, no fewer than three times before he sold it, at a loss. I remember checking into this model circa 2000 when I had an employer with multiple T1s, back when that still seemed as if it was relatively fast broadband, and most of the remaining stock which could be found had a *negative value* given the repair costs, with multiple fora posts from multiple owners attesting to what a disaster it was to own one of these. My dad, owning predominantly Mercedes and Mustangs from my youth in the 1970s, until this car, swore off of European cars entirely until he died (making an exception to buy my mom a Mercedes station wagon with AWD circa 1999 [he passed away in 2000]), switching to a Mustang 5.0 GT convertible after unloading the 750iL onto some other sucker. Albeit, I grew up within ear shot of Laguna Seca, and in addition to attending more or less every race on that track, my dad would also take me on "bonding" trips to Concours d'Elegance at Pebble Beach annually. I am sick to death of cars, but your channel reminds me a bit of the hubris and ignorance my dad exhibited, so I watch it for its charms, or quirks as you may phrase it. ;) Despite your perspective though, as the son of someone who owned one, and pushed cars to their limits, this was a complete disaster of a car. I drove it once or twice, and while it was impressive that it would hit 50MPH before even bothering to shift out of first, it was definitely not suited for anything but making repair shops unnecessary profits on abysmal engineering. There are reasons why multiple mechanic youtube channels poo-poo BMWs, and your review seems to ignore that entirely. I'm honestly surprised you found one in drivable condition in the 21st century, they were falling apart even within a year or two from being shipped from the factory. Moreover, that's *with* the over-engineered poorly thought out trip computer which could be heard mechanically logging information if you sat in the car after it had been powered off for more than 5-10 minutes. A truly, terrible, vehicle.

Exactly this I intend to write - I owned such car in 2008-2011 ;) I always buy original owner' s manuals for my cars (in case I didn't receive them from previous owner) and I also know German ;) But in my opinion dimming the mirror is not factor of dimming, but sensitiveness for the light power behind you. One of the very first BMW with airbag? Mercy, already E23 since 1985 could have it. But I give him right to say long for L, cause of "i" like injection. I' m sorry to hear people who are saying long for Mercedes, because it should be German "lang", due to fact, that we have there "e" like "Einspritzung". E32 with center console and side armrests in leather have also better quality carpet in the trunk, like here. Missing screwdriver in the tool' s set is unforgiven :) According to place for license plate on the front bumper - nothnig new for me - the bumpers have the same size in E32 for Europe and USA, so please don't expect ass licking ;) Plus for small screw covers on engine head cover, 9 for 10 E32 V12 don' t have them. According to "only" 15" wheel size, I remind you, that this car (the one with 2 inlets on the bottom of front bumper) has 4 pistons brake calipers on the front wheels. My personal remark from the driving - Servotronic power steering is unimaginable stiff in comparison to Mercedes W124 for example. Feeling from the driving with small speed is as if the car weighed 3 tons, I totally don' t understand the opinion that is the best handling luxury sedan, that is only German opinion ;) That' s all folks ;)
